Can Leslie McDonald Shine For the North Carolina Tar Heels?

Joshua S. Kelly-USA TODAY Sports

The North Carolina Tar Heels are expected to be a top 10 team in the 2013-14 college basketball season. A big reason for that is because of some NBA talent returning to the team, but on player returning that many people are not talking about is Leslie McDonald. So, can he shine in the upcoming season?

McDonald once had very high expectations on North Carolina, but he never really seemed to meet them. He was a role player for the team this past season, averaging 17.7 minutes per game, while scoring 7.2 points per game.

With some players leaving, McDonald could very well start, but there will be a couple of freshmen behind him that will also have the talent to make the starting five. Well, the time is now or never for McDonald. He would have to be really great for NBA teams to look at him, but at the very least, he can help the Tar Heels make a deep run in the NCAA tournament and finally have some success with the team.

There is going to be plenty of talent around McDonald, which should help him out a lot.

As a once highly rated recruit, McDonald has become a role player on one of the best programs in college basketball history. The talent is still there, he just has to unleash the beast and show the college hoops world why he once was expected to do great things. I do not expect him to be the go-to guy or the leading scorer on the team, but he could very easily score 10+ points per game and be a very efficient shooter.
