It has been quite the crazy spring for sophomore guard, Jerome Seagears.

After the whole Mike Rice “player abuse” fiasco took center stage at Rutgers, a number of players under him opted to transfer elsewhere. Seagears was one of them.

The 6-foot-1 Maryland-native was on the open market and looking for a new home to finish out his collegiate career. He committed to the Auburn Tigers, but that pledge didn’t last too long. After a month in SEC land, Seagears opted to transfer once again, aiming to land somewhere closer to his Maryland home.

Well, on Friday afternoon, Seagears announced that he would simply return to Rutgers next season and re-join the team under newly appointed head coach, Eddie Jordan. The best part about Seagears’ decision to re-commit to the university is the fact that he can play right away, so he will suit up for the Scarlet Knights during the 2013-14 season.

As a sophomore this past year, Seagears averaged 6.5 points, 2.6 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game.

Following the mass exodus after the Rice situation went public, Rutgers does not have the highest of expectations, but Jordan should have Seagears in a pivotal role right from the get-go. Jordan will need experience and Seagears is among the more notable guys moving forward.

Seagears numbers went down from his freshman to sophomore seasons, so it’ll be interesting to see if he can buck the trend and have a bounce back year for the Scarlet Knights in 2013-14.
