The Connecticut Huskies may have “only” won 20 games last season, but they have plenty of talent returning and they should cruise along in the American Athletic Conference in the 2013-14 college basketball season.
Sure, the Louisville Cardinals will be the favorites in the conference and may even be the best team in the nation entering the season, but it’s not like Connecticut will have to play them 10 times or anything close to that.
Another good team will be the Memphis Tigers, but people need to realize how good of a backcourt the Huskies will have in the upcoming season. Shabazz Napier averaged 17.1 points per game last season. Ryan Boatright averaged 15.4 points per game last season. Those aren’t even the only two returning guards that averaged 10 or more points per game. What I am trying to say, is basically the Huskies have a better team than the Tigers. However, it will be settled on the court.
Needless to say, the guard play is going to be scary good. Knocking down threes and having a good backcourt in general will not be enough for Connecticut to win a conference title, but there is enough talent for the Huskies to challenge the Cardinals regardless.
The middle to bottom part of this conference is pretty weak and Connecticut should prove that next season by cruising to victory in conference play.
I have to give Cincinnati credit, though, for the fact alone that Sean Kilpatrick will be back. He could very easily be one of the best players in the AAC.
Sure, there are still some big names in this conference, but Connecticut has a great team and coach, and it is going to make a lot of noise in this conference and in college hoops in the 2013-14 season.
