The Akron Zips are coming off of an NCAA tournament appearance, where they got blown out by the VCU Rams. Still, making the dance was big for this school. With that said, Akron will be playing in the Diamond Head Classic in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

The other teams in the field will include Boise State, Hawaii, George Mason, Iowa State, Oregon State, Saint Mary’s and South Carolina. The Kentucky Wildcats or North Carolina Tar Heels may not be competing in this tourney, but there are still some very solid teams competing.

Iowa State will compete in the Big 12 once again, Boise State has a lot of talent and Akron will be returning enough players to compete in the upcoming season.

Who knows which team will actually win this tourney, but the Zips will be playing some good competition, which could help out their resume come tournament time–if they win some games that is.

There is definitely some NCAA tournament talent in this field, considering that Saint Mary’s, Iowa State, Akron and Boise State all made the tourney this past season. The Broncos could very well enter the tournament as the team to beat, but Akron cannot be counted out, despite the fact that Zeke Marshall will no longer be on the team.

This is not a huge tournament in terms of powerhouse teams, but there will be some very intriguing matchups and college basketball is college basketball, meaning that any game has the potential to be a great one to watch.
