Iowa Hawkeyes Will Go From NIT Runner-Up To NCAA Tournament Team

Iowa Hawkeyes

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

The Iowa Hawkeyes may have not made the 2013 NCAA Tournament, but they they still managed to make the NIT and did pretty well in it. By well, I mean they made it all the way to the championship game, but came up short against the Baylor Bears. Well, don’t look now because Iowa will go from NIT runner-ups to an NCAA tournament team in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

It is amazing that this team is not getting more hype. Indiana and Wisconsin lose key players, while Iowa does not, and those two teams will still likely enter the season with more hype. Don’t get me wrong, the Hoosiers and Badgers will still have the talent to compete, but the Hawkeyes will basically have the same exact team as this past season.

Iowa did finish in sixth place in the Big Ten standings, but it has a team to challenge for a Big Ten title and really make some noise once it does in fact make the dance. Whether the case, the Hawkeyes showed a lot in the NIT–like how they can compete with some great teams. We can talk about how this team will be better or worse than it was this past season, but I will let Iowa do all of the talking on the court. You know, when the entire starting lineup from the 2012-13 season suits up once again.

After winning 25 games, Iowa has the talent to win even more, which will result in an NCAA tourney appearance come March.
