Look For Marquette Golden Eagles’ Davante Gardner To Have A Breakout Season
Vander Blue took his talents to the NBA after the 2012-13 college basketball season. He will be greatly missed and the Marquette Golden Eagles will not be the same as a result. However, Davante Gardner will be back and you can expect him to breakout in the 2013-14 college basketball season.
Gardner was the second leading scorer on the team last season and he only played 21.5 minutes per game. Clearly, the big guy would score more points per game if he saw the court more. At 6’8”, 290 pounds, Gardner is a big force that shot the ball 58.5 percent from the field last season.
He tacked on 4.8 rebounds per game to his stats as well.
Someone has to to take over for Blue in the scoring department, so why not Gardner, who put up 11.5 points per game himself?
Blue is a huge loss, but this team will still have a lot of players to work with, which seems to always be the case with Marquette. It helps that the Golden Eagles will be one of the favorites to win the Big East entering the 2013-14 season. Another great season out of this team is expected. Another thing people can expect is Gardner doing work and him breaking out in a big way.
With more attempts and playing time–hopefully that is the case–this is very likely to happen. However, players like Jamil Wilson should also play major roles for Marquette in the upcoming season. Regardless, it is a great time to be a Golden Eagles fan.
