The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will be losing their leading scorer. Fear not, because Jerrold Brooks will break out in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

Brooks put up pretty good numbers last year, averaging 10.9 points per game. However, he could very well be the new go-t0 guy in the upcoming season, which should definitely bring up that point total.

He did shoot 41.3 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from behind the arc. It always helps when a player drains 74 threes on the year, which is exactly what Brooks did last season.

Add in the fact that he grabbed 2.5 rebounds per game and averaged 2.3 assists per game, and you have a pretty good player. There are plenty of other players that could step up for this team, and although they might, my money is on Brooks to have a big season. It helps that he will be a senior and has that experience under his belt. However, he was a JUCO player, so this will only be his second (and final) season with the team.

Brooks has a lot of upside to him and he proved that by being the second leading scorer on a team that just barely missed out on the NCAA tournament. With Memphis leaving the conference, the Golden Eagles will have a great chance of winning the Conference USA in the 2013-14 season, which will help earn them a bid to the Big Dance.

However, look for Brooks to be the one who breaks out and leads this team all season long.
