The Iowa Hawkeyes will be returning a bunch of talent for the 2013-14 college basketball season, which includes their top five scorers from last year. Out of those five, look for Mike Gesell to have a big year.

No, that does not mean that other players will have bad seasons because I am sure Roy Devyn Marble will have another great year, since he was the leading scorer of the team. That likely will not change.

However, Gesell will be playing in his sophomore season. With another year under his belt, he could really shine for the team. More playing time would also be great, but Iowa did rotate quite a bit of players last year.

Still, he managed to average 8.7 points per game, 2.6 rebounds per game and 2.6 assists per game. He shot 40.3 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from behind the arc.

This team will have plenty of talent, so it is not like Gesell will have to make a major improvement, although that would not be a bad thing. He does need some work on his shot, but that could very well come with experience and getting use to playing college ball, which I am sure is the case by now.

Iowa is a very intriguing team in the Big Ten and it should not be taken lightly. This is a team coming off of a 25-win season. The Hawkeyes did not make the NCAA tournament, but that should be the case in the 2013-14 season. That tends to happen when a team brings back basically the same exact one from the previous season.

Whether the case, Gesell is set to have a big year for Iowa.
