Providence Friars Guard Bryce Cotton One of the Most Underrated Players in the Nation
Some new additions and the core of the “Catholic 7″ have come together, but from a basketball standpoint, that league may very well be wide open heading into next season. While the Friars lost senior guard Vincent Council this off-season and highly-touted freshman Ricky Ledo opted to leave for the NBA without ever playing in a collegiate contest, Providence does have to deal with replacing some missing potential. In all however, the Friars should find themselves in the mix within the upper half of the conference next season and that’s a big time credit to the work that head coach Ed Cooley has done since taking over the Providence program.
One of the biggest keys to the Friars’ potential success during the 2013-14 season however, is lead guard Bryce Cotton. At 6-foot-1, Cotton is simply underrated, but his numbers deserve more recognition than they currently acquire. This past season, Cotton averaged 19.7 points per game and was one of the more prolific scorers in the conference. While leading the way for the Friars however, Cotton didn’t get much attention outside of that. Don’t expect that to be the case during the 2013-14 season.
Cotton deserves more national attention and he should be able to piece that together as he approaches another season with increasing expectations in Providence.
