The DePaul Blue Demons do not get the best recruits on their team on a yearly basis, which helps to explain why they are not among the best college basketball teams on a yearly basis. However, with players staying on the team longer, experience is created, which is a very important thing in college hoops and many other sports. With that said, the returning players needs to carry the Blue Demons in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

DePaul had two players that scored 16 or more points per game last year. Both of those players will be back. Sure, the team will be losing some talent, but many new players will be joining the team, which is clearly a good scenario for DePaul. It did finish last season with 11 wins and 21 losses. That was solid enough for last place in the Big East.

The new Big East will not have as many dangerous teams, which should help. However, the Blue Demons are still being considered the worst team in the conference.

That is where those leadership and experience things need to come into play for this team. A college hoops team should rack up a lot more wins when it has two lethal scorers. However, that clearly does not always lead to success.

So although DePaul needs to get better in so many areas, it is time for players like Brandon Young and Cleveland Melvin to take over for the Blue Demons and lead them on and off the court. If all else fails, at least DePaul will have two high scorers again.
