Despite the fact that the Connecticut Huskies basically played their games for no reason this past season other than bragging rights–weren’t allowed to play in the postseason–they had a great year and exceeded expectations. One of the players that had a good season for the team was freshman Omar Calhoun and he could be even better in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

Calhoun scored 11.1 points per game in his first season in college hoops and managed to shoot 40.2 percent from the field and 32.1 percent from behind the arc. He also made 43 threes on the year, which was good enough for second best on the team.

He played a huge role last season and that will definitely be the case in the upcoming one. Sure, Ryan Boatright and Shabazz Napier will steal the show, but that does not mean that Calhoun will have a worse season. He has a lot of upside to him and he will help make up one of the best backcourts in college basketball.

Calhoun had plenty of games where he showed that he could be an elite scorer, scoring 20 or more points multiple times on the year. There were still three players that scored more than him and got more attempts, but that could be a different story if a breakout season were to occur for Calhoun.

Still, Connecticut will easily be one of the better teams in the nation and will compete for a conference title in the AAC. It should be a great season if you are a fan of Calhoun and the Huskies.
