On Tuesday afternoon, news circulated that the Seton Hall Pirates had picked up their first commitment from the class of 2014. Ismael Sanogo announced his decision to join the Pirates’ program for the 2014-15 season, a nice early pickup for Seton Hall head coach, Kevin Willard.

Sanogo, a 6-foot-7 small forward out of Newark East Side (NJ), announced his decision with a 12:30pm (EST) press conference on Tuesday, a day that also marked his 17th birthday.

Seton Hall was the first major offer for Sanogo, who visited the campus three weeks ago, according to reports. He is fresh off a nice showing down in Philadelphia at the Reebok Breakout Classic where he played with the NJ Roadrunners in a summer that will mark his final run on the AAU circuit.

Prior to his commitment on Tuesday afternoon, Sanogo had claimed offers from a number of area schools, but he pledged his commitment to the Pirates over the likes of George Mason, VCU, and Pennsylvania. During his press conference, Sanogo mentioned some of the prior names to come through Seton Hall, including one of the Big East Conference‘s best recent defenders in Faquan Edwin.

Willard’s ability to land Sanogo shows the team’s impact in the area, as the 6-foot-7 wing could very well be on the up-and-up in terms of his potential. The future is bright for Sanogo and this is a commitment that could very well pay off with some nice dividends on the court in the coming years for the Pirates.
