Georgia Walk-On Suffers Torn ACL Due To Unfortunate Bomb Explosion

Georgia‘s men’s basketball team will be without the services of a preferred walk-on due to an ACL tear.

Dusan Langura, a native of Switzerland, was injured when a bomb went off. Yes, an actual bomb caused his injuries. Langura was participating in his required military commitment back home, according to Georgia head coach Mark Fox. Langura’s spot on the team was already set in stone for him this season.

Fox says Langura can really shoot the ball, and that Georgia will honor their commitment to him. He also said that the player probably would not be cleared to practice until January or February.

I wonder how American high school students would feel about participating in a required military commitment before going to college. I can’t imagine high-profile recruits like Kansas‘ Andrew Wiggins or Kentucky‘s Julius Randle being required to perform that kind of duty before being allowed to chase their dreams.

This story is certainly one of the most unique in recent memory.

I applaud the commitment that Fox and Georgia have made to the kid as well. Being a “preferred” walk-on would mean Langura could be in line for a scholarship if he earns it and if one becomes available. I’m not sure I could fathom Georgia saying no because he tore his ACL during a bomb explosion. If he was acting recklessly, I would understand the school backing off its offer.

Putting aside Langura’s basketball future, I’m just glad the kid survived and only sustained injuries he can fully recover from.
