A Look At Saint Mary's Gaels' Stephen Holt For the Upcoming Season

Matthew Dellavedova no longer being on the Saint Mary’s Gaels definitely hurts the team, but there will still be plenty of talent returning in the 2013-14 college basketball season. One of those talents is Stephen Holt.

Holt is the highest returning scorer on the team, averaging 11.6 points per game. However, he also grabbed 5.4 rebounds per game.

Since Dellavedova was the go-to guy and the leading scorer, Holt will be a candidate for both of those things. With that in mind, players that scored just barely less than him will also be back, so the bulk of the attempts for the Gaels could go to a number of players.

Holt shot the ball more this past season, which could be a reason why his numbers dropped when it came to shooting percentage from the field and shooting percentage from behind the arc. However, he also put the ball into the hoop more times and even had 41 made three-pointers.

It will be interesting to see if Saint Mary’s can compete for a WCC title without Dellavedova, but there are still plenty of pieces left to make some noise. With that in mind, the Gaels finished two games back in the conference standings last season and lost to the Gonzaga Bulldogs three times.

At the same time, the Gaels were able to make the 2013 NCAA Tournament as a No. 11 seed–lost in first game of dance.

Still, there is plenty to look forward to if you are a Saint Mary’s fan and Holt will be a very important player once again in the 2013-14 season.
