With the Creighton Bluejays dashing off to the Big East Conference, you would think that Wichita State would be a given to win the MVC in the 2013-14 college basketball season, but not so fast.

The Indiana State Sycamores will have a very talented team and they will challenge the Shockers for a conference title. Sure, Wichita State did make the Final Four this past season and Indiana State did not even dance.

However, the Sycamores will be returning plenty of talent, which includes their leading scorer from last season in Jake Odum.

Indiana State played Wichita State last year twice and it managed to split that series. This team also beat Ole Miss and Miami during the regular season–both teams made the Big Dance.

The Sycamores finished in fifth place in the conference standings this past year–four games out of first. Still, they will have a bunch of experience in the upcoming season, which is always key for any team in college hoops or any sport for that matter.

It would be a surprise if Indiana State did not make the 2014 NCAA Tournament, but we will worry about that if it is on the bubble come March.

With Creighton no longer in the MVC, maybe Indiana State can take its place in the upcoming season and battle it out with the Shockers. As it stands, though, Wichita State is likely the heavy favorite to come away with a MVC title and rightfully so. It did just make the Final Four as a No. 9 seed.
