Derrick Gordon Will Help Make Massachusetts Minutemen One of Best Teams In A 10

The Massachusetts Minutemen may have not made the 2013 NCAA Tournament, but they will have a good shot at doing so in the 2013-14 college basketball season. Not to mention, transfer Derrick Gordon will help make them one of the best teams in the Atlantic 10 Conference.

Although a couple of teams are no longer in the conference, the A 10 still consists of VCU, Saint Louis and La Salle–three teams that should make the tourney once again. Believe it or not, you can add the Minutemen to that mix and you can also consider them as a serious threat to win a conference title.

Gordon previously played for Western Kentucky and he sat out last season. As a Hilltopper, he put up 11.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. That kind of production for his new team would be huge and should be expected. With that said, improving his shot would be a plus, as he only shot 26.6 percent from behind the arc.

Even with that low of a percentage, Gordon was able to sink 25 threes on the year.

Chaz Williams is the returning leader scorer and he will be one of the best players in the conference, which bodes very well for Massachusetts. However, Gordon is a great addition and he should succeed for the team.

The A 10 is not a cupcake conference, but Gordon has played some pretty good teams in his time. For instance, he played against the Kentucky Wildcats in the 2012 NCAA Tournament and managed to score 12 points in that contest. In case if you do not remember, that was the same Wildcats team that was led by Anthony Davis and won a national championship.

In that same season, Gordon also scored 13 points against Louisville. The Cardinals were ranked No. 4 in the nation at the time.

As you can see, Gordon has played some of the best teams in college hoops, which should help him have an instant impact for his new team. This in turn will help Massachusetts be one of the best teams in the Atlantic 10, among many other things.
