Memphis Tigers Need To Take Next Step Under Josh Pastner

Josh Pastner got his first NCAA tournament win under the Memphis Tigers this past season, but his team needs to take the next step in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

By next step, I mean actually going on a deep run in the tourney. Winning 31 games last season and getting that first win in the dance ever since the John Calipari era was huge, but it was not out of this world amazing.

In my eyes, only making it to the round of 32 after winning 31 games on the year is nothing more than a disappointment. In most sports, teams are measured by wins and then by championships. Well, Memphis has that winning thing down, not it must win championships–may take awhile and may never happen.

The Tigers will be just as talented as anyone in the upcoming season and they very well could have one of the best backcourts in the nation, especially if Michael Dixon is allowed to play. They definitely have a lot of hype and joining the AAC is huge for the program.

Now that all of the excitement is there, it is time for Memphis to win in the NCAA tournament.

Pastner is a great coach and a great recruiter. There is no reason why his teams should not be making it to at least the Sweet 16. If his team does not make it that far in the 2013-14 season, who knows what will happen. Pastner shouldn’t get fired or anything like that, but it will be a huge letdown for Memphis fans. So, it is time for the Tigers to take that next step under their head coach.
