Washington Huskies Are Not Getting Enough Respect

The Washington Huskies may have not made the 2013 NCAA Tournament, but they are still a team that will compete in the Pac-12 Conference in the 2013-14 college basketball season. However, they are not getting enough respect.

In a recent power ranking of the Pac-12, ESPN’s Miles Simon has the Huskies ranked No. 8.

I will take this in one of two ways. Either the Pac-12 will be stacked in the upcoming season or Simon does not think Washington will be good.

Leading scorer C.J. Wilcox will be back and a five-star recruit will be joining the team. Not to mention, the Huskies will get a great transfer in Perris Blackwell, who averaged 12.7 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game in the 2011-12 season.

The team will be losing some very good players, but enough talent is returning for Washington to compete in this conference. To be honest, the Pac-12 will feature plenty of great teams. Arizona may be the favorite to win the conference title, but it is not going to walk all over the Pac-12… well, maybe.

There will be plenty of upsets in the conference and enough competitors to keep everyone entertained.

Sure, Washington finished last season with an 18-16 record overall and a conference record of 9-9, but it has some great players still.

So although the No. 8 ranking may be a little harsh, if returning players step up and if Nigel Williams-Goss–the five-star recruit–can have an instant impact, the Huskies may be better than people think they will be. Until then, the power rankings are going to say what the power rankings want to say.
