The Iowa Hawkeyes may have missed out on the NCAA tournament last season, but they will still be a top 25 team in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

Iowa returns basically its entire team from last season. That includes leading scorer Roy Devyn Marble, who averaged 15 points per game.

The Hawkeyes finished last season with an overall record of 25-13 and a Big Ten record of 9-9. The conference record clearly has to get better in the upcoming season, but this is a team that should finish in the top five of the standings.

It is important to note that Iowa made it all the way to the championship game in the NIT this past season. That may not be on the same level as making the national championship, but it is still a pretty impressive feat for a team that was not able to make the dance.

Iowa has experience and talent going for it this season. That is huge since some Big Ten teams will be losing a lot of both of those things.

Iowa is not a powerhouse team in the Big Ten, but we will see it have a great season. Winning a conference title should not be out of the question, despite the fact that Michigan State is likely a top five team in the country.

So, Iowa is definitely a top five team in the conference and it should not be a surprise if it cracks the top 10 in the rankings at some point in the season. The potential is there for the Hawkeyes to succeed and that usually is the case when a team returns basically every single player from the previous year’s team.
