The DePaul Blue Demons finished last season with an overall record of 11-21 and a Big East record of 2-16. Unfortunately, things will likely not get a whole lot better in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

In a recent power ranking, ESPN has the team ranked last in the Big East Conference.

It is not all bad for this team though, as the two leading scorers return. Both Brandon Young and Cleveland Melvin averaged 16+ points per game last season. Doing the same in the upcoming season will be huge, especially if this teams plans on not finishing in last place in the conference standings once again.

The Big East will be a little less tough on the Blue Demons since teams like Louisville, Syracuse and Notre Dame are no longer in the conference, but it will still be one of the better conference in college hoops.

DePaul needs a serious makeover or a miracle. As it stands, this is the worst team in the conference and the season hasn’t even started.

Hopefully some new faces can help give the Blue Demons a spark. With key additions, DePaul really does look better on paper, but you have to remember that this team only won 11 games total last season. That is very hard to rebound from and winning the conference title or anything near that is likely not even a thought.

So until this team actually improves on the court, it will be considered as an easy victory for most of the teams that it faces.
