The Colorado Buffaloes should be ranked in the 2013-14 college basketball season, but they will have to earn that ranking with a very tough non-conference schedule. However, what is their toughest game of the season?

Colorado will take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys during the regular season. No big deal since the Cowboys only return three players that averaged 14 or more points per game last season and one of those players seems to be a lock for a top 10 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Not to mention, Oklahoma State is talented enough to be ranked in the top five.

Colorado is not too bad either. The Buffs won 21 games last season, but return a bunch of talent, like the top two leading scorers from last season’s team. The Buffaloes will challenge Arizona for a conference title and should make the Big Dance with ease.

Both teams could and should be ranked in the top 25 when they meet. However, Colorado has a very tough out-of-conference schedule and could lose a couple of games early. I am always a glass half full–and then some–type of person, but the Buffs will not have it easy this year.

They scheduled some very tough matchups, which will pay dividends come tournament time.

Oklahoma State should be in the talks for winning a national championship this year and it will be predicted to beat Colorado. That doesn’t mean that CU does not have a chance, though, because it should be a hard fought battle regardless of who the winner is.
