St. John’s Red Storm Could Have Had A More Challenging Non-Conference Schedule

The St. John’s Red Storm finished last season with a 17-16 record, but they still could have had a more challenging non-conference schedule in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

Steve Lavin is the head coach and he has done a fine job at recruiting ever since joining the program. Not to mention, this could be his most talented team yet. The top two leading scorers will be coming back and it always helps when a team lands a five-star recruit.

With that said, the Red Storm will take on Syracuse and Wisconsin in their non-conference schedule. Both of those teams will be very tough challenges and a win in either one would be big for St. John’s. After those two games, though, it is not really challenged at all.

St. John’s should beat Bucknell and it should have no problem in the Barclays Center Classic.

Maybe it is a good thing that the team will have an easier non-conference schedule. That will allow it to rack up the wins and gain some confidence. Losing five games in a row to end the regular season last year probably did not help with that.

The Red Storm are great on paper and hopefully they can be even better on the court. I think this will finally be the year that they breakout with Lavin as their head coach. Big East play will be huge this season and St. John’s needs to finish with a better conference record than 8-10 if it plans on dancing. However, it needs to have a good out-of-conference schedule record before it can worry about that.
