Are the VCU Rams Getting Too Much Hype?

People are saying that this could be the best VCU Rams team yet (me included). However, are the Rams getting too much hype for the 2013-14 college basketball season?

I guess that depends who you are talking to. On one hand, VCU will be losing Darius Theus and Troy Daniels. Daniels was a beast from behind the arc (124 made threes) and he scored the third most points on the team last year. Theus was the team’s point guard, which is arguably the most important position on the court. Both will be missed, but this team is not lacking at all in the talent department.

On the other hand, every other player will be back. Keep in mind, this team that won 27 games last season and made the dance as a No. 5 seed. Don’t mind the fact that the Rams got blown out against Michigan in the round of 32, though.

Joining the team will be Florida State transfer Terrance Shannon. He should have a big impact for VCU right away.

The top two leading scorers from last year’s team will also be back. Treveon Graham averaged 15.1 points per game last season and Juvonte Reddic put up 14.6 points per game. Both were great on the boards as well–top two rebounders on team.

These two players have the talent to not only be two of the best in the Atlantic 10, but two of the best in the nation as well.

So I guess you could say that Shaka Smart’s team is not getting too much hype. However, the Rams have to do better once the NCAA tournament starts. This is too good of a team to not at least make it to the Sweet 16. On that note, Michigan did make the national championship game last season.

If anything this team is not getting enough hype.
