John Groce Is Doing A Fine Job At Recruiting For Illinois Fighting Illini
Bruce Weber did work for the Illinois Fighting Illini, but head coach John Groce has been doing a fine job at recruiting ever since taking over for this team.
The 2014 recruiting class is already looking solid to say the least. Two four-stars and one three-star are set to join the team (according to ESPN). Not to mention, the two-four stars are ranked in ESPN’s top 100 for the 2014 class. Quentin Snider is ranked No. 35 and Leron Black is ranked No. 41.
The 2013-14 season hasn’t even started yet, but it is hard to not get excited about those two players joining the team.
Groce helped coach Illinois to a 23-13 record last season, which was good enough to make it a No. 7 seed in the 2013 NCAA Tournament. Not bad for Groce’s first year. However, the team did finish conference play with an 8-10 record, which could be better.
Some talented freshmen will be joining the team in the upcoming season and some players are returning, so the Fighting Illini could make the dance once again under Groce.
The Fighting Illini will likely not be as talented as the Michigan State Spartans or Michigan Wolverines in the upcoming season, but they will still be good enough to hang with the big boys in the conference.
Whether the case, Illinois is getting some highly rated recruits and Groce should be given a lot of credit for that. He has done a fine job for this program so far and Illinois should be a contender in college hoops for a long time.
