San Diego State Aztecs Will Be Challenged Right Away
The San Diego State Aztecs will be losing their two best players for the 2013-14 college basketball season, but apparently that will not matter because they will be challenged right away.
The Aztecs open up their season by playing UC Riverside. That will be a nice tuneup game before the very next one.
They will take on the Arizona Wildcats in just their second game of the season. Talking about tough. Arizona is already being considered as one of the best teams in college hoops and a lot of that has to do with a great incoming recruiting class. With that said, Nick Johnson will also be back, along with other players. Johnson averaged 11.5 points per game, 3.6 rebounds per game and 3.2 assists per game last season and is set to have a big year.
This would be a much better matchup if San Diego State still had Jamaal Franklin and Chase Tapley, but that is not the case.
At least this team will get to see what one of the best teams in college basketball looks like right off the bat. That should make the rest of the out-of-conference schedule seem really easy. That is until the Aztecs take on the Kansas Jayhawks on Jan. 5. Kansas will also be one of the best teams in the nation and that Andrew Wiggins guy has a lot to do with that.
Playing both Kansas and Arizona in the 2013-14 season will provide serious boosts to the strength of schedule and winning either game would be huge. Who knows if that will be the case, but it is great to see this team challenging itself right off of the bat.
