Maryland Terrapins Will Be Challenged In First Game of the Season

Maryland Terrapins

The Maryland Terrapins will be challenged in their very first game of the 2013-14 college basketball season. They will take on the Connecticut Huskies.

Connecticut should be ranked to start the season, but we will have to wait and see if that will actually be the case. The Huskies are coming off of a 20-win season and will actually be eligible to make the NCAA tournament. Kevin Ollie has done great things with this program so far and his team will have the talent to compete for a national title this year.

Connecticut returns a bunch of talent, which includes the top two leading scorers from last year’s team. Shabazz Napier led the team in scoring with 17.1 points per game and Ryan Boatright was no too far behind, averaging 15.4 points per game.

As for Maryland, it did not make the dance last year and it will be interesting to see if it can in the upcoming season. The Terrapins will be without Alex Len. Len decided to take his talents to the next level. He led the team in rebounding, but Maryland was the third best rebounding team in the country, averaging 40.8 rebounds per game.

The Terps won 25 games last season and finished with an ACC record of 8-10.

I am sure Connecticut will be the favorite going into this contest, but Maryland will still be talented enough to pull off the upset.

Although this game is not the most buzzed about one in the 2013-14 season, it should be a great one to watch regardless. This would be a huge win for the Terps and it would look great on the resume.
