It will be interesting to see how the Saint Mary’s Gaels will do in the 2013-14 college basketball season without Matthew Dellavedova, but they will have a tough challenge right off of the bat regardless.

The Gaels will take on Louisiana Tech in their first game of the season. The Bulldogs won 27 games last season, but did not make the NCAA tournament. They will have the talent to win that many games in the upcoming season and will also have the talent to actually make the dance.

Louisiana Tech will likely be one of the Gaels’ toughest opponents in their non-conference schedule. The best opponent on their schedule is probably the matchup against the Boise State Broncos.

Whether the case, someone has to step up for this team with the loss of Dellavedova.

Saint Mary’s was an NCAA tournament team last year and who knows if that will be the case in the upcoming season. Still, beating the Bulldogs to open up the season would be a pretty big win and would show that the Gaels are still a competitor in college hoops.

Saint Mary’s won 28 games last year and challenged Gonzaga for a conference title. When it was all said and done, the team finished two games back in the WCC. As usual, Gonzaga should be the favorite to win the conference in the 2013-14 season, but the Gaels could still push the Bulldogs.

Louisiana Tech is a tough opponent to play right off of the bat, but it could be a lot worse.
