The Butler Bulldogs were a great basketball team last year and they have been one of the best mid-majors over the past few years. However, they are now in the Big East. Whether the case, the team should have some momentum heading into the Old Spice Classic.

Momentum is exactly what Butler needs in the upcoming season as it will be without Brad Stevens, Rotnei Clarke and Roosevelt Jones. Some great players will still be returning, but the Bulldogs will have a new identity to say the least.

They should have no problem winning their first four games of the season. Then the Old Spice Classic will take place. Butler will open up against the Washington State Cougars and it should be 4-0 entering that game.

Winning the first four games of the season is exactly what this team needs. Slipping up before the Old Spice could be very costly.

Still, Butler should have no problem against Washington State. If it wins that game it will likely have to take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys next. In no way will that game be easy. Marcus Smart will be returning to the Cowboys and he is easily one of the best players in the country. Not to mention, Oklahoma State should be ranked in the top 10 entering that contest.

The Bulldogs will be a huge underdog in that matchup, but they seem to play best when they are the underdog. However, that was in the Brad Stevens era.

Whether the case, the Bulldogs need some momentum entering the Old Spice Classic and a very manageable schedule should allow that to happen.
