Who Will Lead the Iowa State Cyclones In Scoring?

Iowa State Cyclones

The Iowa State Cyclones will be losing their two leading scorers for the 2013-14 college basketball season, but luckily some talent will be returning. However, who will lead the team in the scoring department in the upcoming season?

Both Melvin Ejim and Georges Niang will be back for another year. Ejim averaged 11.3 points per game last year and Niang averaged 12.1 points per game (leading returning scorer). Marshall transfer DeAndre Kane will be joining the team and he managed to score 15.1 points per game last season.

These are the three most likely candidates to lead the team in scoring in the 2013-14 season and really any one of the three could achieve that feat. I am going with Niang, though.

He averaged the least amount of playing time out of the three, playing 25.1 minutes per game. Niang managed to shoot 51.5 percent from the field and 39.2 percent from behind the arc. Keep in mind that he is 6’7” and a forward. Niang also drained 38 threes, so he is clearly a threat from deep range.

Iowa State may be losing its two leading scorers, but it will still have plenty of players who can put the ball into the hoop.

This is a team that managed to make the NCAA tournament last season as a No. 10 seed. The Cyclones also finished with a 23-12 record and a Big 12 record of 11-7. Not to mention, they were the fourth highest scoring team in the nation (79.6 PPG).

Iowa State should have no problem making the tourney once again, but it is Niang who could lead the team in scoring in the 2013-14 season.
