The LSU Tigers are quickly becoming a force. Well, not a force to be recognized with right away, but the type that might contend for SEC glory in a few years. Just a few days removed from landing 7-foot behemoth Elbert Robinson, the Tigers have done it again by scooping up guard, Jalyn Patterson. That makes four verbal commits for the 2014 class for LSU.
Patterson’s decision comes shortly after having an official visit with the program.
While not humorously high-rated, Patterson is going to add some depth to the LSU backcourt and may compete for some legit time down the road. The guard is a three-star prospect according to numerous recruiting websites. Really — worst case scenario — it adds security for the Tigers in case the hype building behind Tim Quarterman doesn’t pan out.
The commitment of Patterson gives LSU coach, Johnny Jones, the perception that he may be quickly turning the program all the way back around. Considering LSU hasn’t been to the NCAA Tournament since the 2008-09 season — when they won the SEC — Jones is looking to make an immediate impact in his first year with the program — at least in recruiting.
It will be interesting to see what this team does during the season, although, the future does look very bright for Jones and the Tigers. If he keeps up with the recruiting and parlays it to on the court success, there is no telling how many (fictional) rungs of the SEC ladder this program can climb.
