Saint Mary’s Gaels Will Have the Talent To Win the WCC

Saint Mary's Gaels

The Gonzaga Bulldogs rule the WCC and that has been the case for a long time now. However, the Saint Mary’s Gaels will have the talent to win the regular season conference title in the 2013-14 college basketball season.

If someone is going to beat the Bulldogs why not this year? Gonzaga will be losing two very good players in Kelly Olynyk and Elias Harris. Both were the top two leading scorers and rebounders on last year’s team, so the Bulldogs will clearly be taking a huge hit.

With that in mind, Gonzaga will still return enough talent to win the WCC and they basically win it on a yearly basis anyways. It will be the favorite to win the conference title yet again, but that tends to happen when a team dominates a conference like the Bulldogs have done over the years.

Still, Saint Mary’s usually competes for a WCC title and it actually won the regular season title in the 2011-12 season.

Saint Mary’s will be losing its best player in Matthew Dellavedova. Dellavedova was the man for the Gaels and his 15.8 points per game and 6.4 assists per game will be missed. Not to mention, he was lights out from behind the arc.

Stephen Holt, Beau Levesque and Brad Waldow will be back, though, among other players. These were the next three highest scorers on the team and they will lead the charge for the Gaels in the 2013-14 season.

Holt averaged 11.6 points per game, Levesque averaged 10.6 points per game and Waldow averaged 10.2 points per game last season.

Saint Mary’s will have the talent to win the WCC and make the NCAA tournament in the upcoming season. However, it is now up to last year’s role players to take over for the Gaels.

Gonzaga dominates the WCC, but this could be the year Saint Mary’s wins the regular season conference title.
