Looking At Wake Forest Demon Deacons’ Toughest Non-Conference Schedule Game
I am sure Wake Forest Demon Deacon fans miss Chris Paul. The Demon Deacons did not compete in the ACC whatsoever last season and they were simply not a good basketball team. Still, let’s take a look at their toughest non-conference schedule game for the 2013-14 college basketball season.
That game will be played against the Kansas Jayhawks. The preseason rankings for the USA Today Coaches Poll are out and Kansas is ranked No. 6. That is pretty reasonable since the Jayhawks will have to replace their entire starting lineup from last year’s team. However, they will also be getting the No. 1 recruit in the nation in Andrew Wiggins.
The season is just around the corner and I am sure college hoop fans are looking forward to Wiggins’ debut. He will be joined by one of the best recruiting classes in the country and there is still some talent returning to the team. Plus, Memphis transfer Tarik Black will be able to play right away.
As for Wake Forest, it loses its leading scorer in C.J. Harris. This is a very young team, though, so maybe that young talent can surprise a lot of people.
The Demon Deacons finished last season with a 13-18 record. It also finished the ACC with a 6-12 record.
Kansas will easily be the favorite in this contest, but Wake Forest did upset two top 25 teams (at the time) last season. One was the No. 18 North Carolina State Wolfpack and the other was the No. 2 Miami Hurricanes. So an upset in this matchup is not impossible, but it is also not likely.
