Are the Indiana Hoosiers Worthy of A Top 25 Ranking?

The Indiana Hoosiers were without a doubt one of the best teams in college basketball last season. However, are they worthy of a top 25 ranking to start the 2013-14 season?

The rankings seem to think so. Indiana is ranked No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.

Indiana is losing four very talented players and it will be a completely different team this season. Two players returning are Yogi Ferrell and Will Sheehey. Both played key roles last season and both will have to lead the team.

The Hoosiers have some solid freshmen joining, which includes a five-star recruit. The talent is there for Indiana to succeed, but being ranked in the top 25 right off of the bat may be a little too much.

Iowa is basically returning its entire team from last season and could finish higher in the Big Ten standings than the Hoosiers. The Hawkeyes were left out of the top 25, though.

Indiana could be one of the best teams in the Big Ten. Who knows? There are plenty of other teams that are more worthy of a top 25 ranking to start the season, though. Iowa is one of them and you could also throw Colorado, Baylor and other teams into that mix.

Regardless, Indiana will have to prove it is worthy of its ranking once the season starts. Not to mention, the Big Ten will feature some of the best teams in college hoops–like always.

Before the rankings came out I thought Indiana should be ranked, but not over teams like Tennessee and Creighton. I guess we will have to wait and see if the Hoosiers are actually worthy of their ranking once they hit the court, but on paper I am not seeing it and there are a few teams that could have made a better case for being in the top 25.
