The Wisconsin Badgers may not be the highest ranked team in the USA Today Coaches Poll, but they still managed a No. 21 ranking. Regardless of just cracking the top 25, the Badgers are a very dangerous team.

At the same time, Wisconsin will have two very challenging games right off of the bat. It plays St. John’s to open the season and Florida in the very next game. The Gators are ranked No. 8.

If Sam Dekker can become a star in his second season, though, Wisconsin can climb up the rankings very quickly. Dekker averaged 9.6 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per game as a freshman. However, he also managed to hit 47.8 percent of his shots from the field and 39.1 percent from behind the arc.

Leading scorer Ben Brust will be back, but Dekker could very easily lead the team in scoring. These two players will do work all season long and they will both play big roles.

The Badgers have a very tough non-conference schedule and winning some of the bigger games could have them ranked in the top 10 before conference play even begins. Heck, a win against the Gators on Nov. 12 would shoot them right up the rankings.

This team is going to be challenged all season long and that will help them be tournament tested. This could be scary news for the rest of the Big Ten and whoever else this team plays on the year.

No. 21 is not too bad, but Wisconsin could and should be a lot more dangerous than that.
