Should the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Be Ranked No. 22?
The USA Today Coaches Poll is out and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will enter the season by being ranked No. 22. However, should they be ranked this high, lower or is their ranking just right?
I personally do not think the Fighting Irish should be ranked to start the season, but a No. 22 ranking is still pretty fair.
Jack Cooley and Scott Martin will no longer be on the team, but talent does return. Leading scorer Jerian Grant will be back. He averaged 13.3 points per game and 5.5 assists per game last season.
It is not like Notre Dame was bad last year either. It did finish with 25 wins on the season and made the 2013 NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed. The only thing is the fact that the Fighting Irish lost their first game of the dance against the Iowa State Cyclones. I don’t see the Cyclones ranked in the Coaches Poll, but that is alright.
Iowa State is losing a bunch of talent, but it still should compete in the Big 12.
Ranked or not, Notre Dame will still have to adjust to the ACC in the 2013-14 season. It does not make it any easier that three teams in this conference are entering the season by being ranked in the top 11. Duke is ranked No. 4, Syracuse is ranked No. 7 and North Carolina is ranked No. 11. Virgina is also ranked No. 25.
Still, this is a team that basically competes every year under head coach Mike Brey. No. 22 is pretty fair, but this team will have to be on its game to keep that ranking all season long.
