The Akron Zips will not be the best team entering the Diamond Head Classic, but they have the talent to win it.

The Diamond Head Classic will begin on Dec. 22 and it will consist of some pretty good teams. Iowa State and Boise State definitely highlight the tournament field and those two teams will be the favorites to win it.

Akron is coming off of a great season where it made the NCAA tournament and won 26 games. It could be just as good in the 2013-14 college basketball season, but it will have the tough task of replacing Zeke Marshall. Marshall was a beast last season and managed to average 13 points per game, seven rebounds per game and 3.7 blocks per game.

Those stats are great to say the least and Marshall will be missed.

Still, plenty of key players will be returning. Demetrius Treadwell could be the best one as he is the returning leading scorer and rebounder. He averaged 11.5 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game last season.

The Diamond Head Classic will play tough for Akron, but it still could come away with the trophy.

The Zips will be one of the best teams in the MAC once again, but they will likely have to win the conference to make the dance. That tends to be the case in the Mid-American Conference. Still, some of these players have NCAA tournament experience and it is not like the Diamond Head Classic will consist of the best teams in college hoops.
