The Iowa Hawkeyes are already 2-0, but Roy Devyn Marble has to step up his game.

Marble is averaging 11.5 points per game, 3.5 rebounds per game and 4.5 assists per game. He is also only shooting 27.8 percent from the field and 12.5 percent from behind the arc. Those shooting numbers are really bad and are not what you would expect out of a senior who led his team in scoring last year.

Iowa has won its first two games and that is really all that matters, but Marble is the leader of this team and he is going to have to come up big all season long. He came up huge in the NIT last season, scoring 20+ points in four contests. However, he only had six points in the NIT championship game and the Hawkeyes lost that one.

Marble is the best player on the team and he is one of the best players in the Big Ten. The conference is filled with talent and many of its teams will make the 2014 NCAA Tournament. I really think Iowa will be one of those teams, but it is capable of much more than just dancing.

The Hawkeyes have the talent to finish in the top three of the conference standings and you better believe that they are good enough to make a deep run in the tourney. They may not get as much hype as many of the top teams in the Big Ten, but hype doesn’t win basketball games.

Regardless, Marble needs to step up his game, but I am sure that will not be an issue all season.
