Tennessee vs. Xavier Could Be One of the Top Games During Tip-Off Marathon
The Tennessee Volunteers vs. Xavier Musketeers matchup is very intriguing to say the least. Unfortunately, that game will start at the same time as the Florida vs. Wisconsin matchup and 30 minutes before the showdown between Kansas and Duke. Still, Tennessee vs. Xavier could be one of the top games during the Tip-Off Marathon.
In no way does it have as much hype as the Champions Classic, but it is still being played against two teams that could wind up in the NCAA tournament.
The Musketeers had a down year last season, but they have players back, like Semaj Christon. Tennessee has a stacked lineup and should be getting more love. However, Kentucky and Florida are getting most of the buzz in the SEC, as they should be. The Volunteers will still compete in the conference and they have the talent to come away with the title. In no way are they the favorite to win it, though.
Tennessee won the matchup last season by the score of 51-47. Both teams should have better seasons, but the Volunteers will be getting back a key player in Jeronne Maymon. Maymon averaged 12.7 points per game and 8.1 rebounds per game in the 2011-12 season and should play a big role once again.
All eyes are going to be on the two biggest matchups of the night–Kentucky vs. Michigan State and Duke vs. Kansas–but Tennessee vs. Xavier is not going to be a bad watch either. The Florida vs. Wisconsin game does feature two teams ranked in the top 25, so I am sure a lot of television sets will have that on as well.
