The St. John’s Red Storm already have three losses on the season. However, they played tough in all three of those contests. Steve Lavin‘s team is very, very talented, but the Red Storm are not exceeding expectations or anything like that and the team needs a signature win as soon as possible.
It’s not like a big win right away would get this team into the Big Dance. It is only December. However, Lavin needs to keep his team relevant, so they can stay on the right side of the bubble all year long. That is not going to happen if St. John’s loses to good teams and only beats the teams that it is supposed to beat.
The Red Storm have already lost to Wisconsin, Penn State and Syracuse. The loss to the Nittany Lions may prove to be costly as the season progresses, but we will have to wait and see how conference play shapes up to get a direct answer to that.
This team really does not play any more challenging opponents before Big East play, so it better hope that it runs the table until then. As a result, St. John’s will enter conference play searching for a big win and will have a lot to prove until it does achieve that feat.
Still, this team has the talent to win the Big East and it should surprise no one if it actually does do that. Regardless, the Red Storm need a signature win because that resume has bubble team written all over it as it stands.
