Top 25 Teams In College Hoops

top
Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

'Tis the season for college basketball. As usual, there will be plenty of intriguing matchups this week in college hoops. However, see where the top 25 teams are ranked for Week 7 before you catch those games.

How about the North Carolina Tar Heels. No other team has three better wins than Roy Williams’ team. That tends to happen, though, when a team beats the top three ranked teams in the preseason poll.

Kentucky is not as good as we expected... yet. The Wildcats look amazing at times and not so amazing at other times. Still, they battle it out every single game. They are just searching for that big win and I am going to guess that they are going to get it here shortly.

Florida very well could be the team to beat entering SEC play. It is going to be a serious boost to the team once five-star recruit Chris Walker joins. The Gators are finally getting back to full strength, which should do wonders once conference play begins.

With that in mind, Florida and the Memphis Tigers will battle it out tonight. It is not like either team absolutely needs the win, but a victory would be huge for both. Unfortunately, only one team can win that game.

Arizona is still the top team in college basketball, but there are a couple of teams gaining ground on them. The top five does not look much different from last week, but there is one change that did take place.

Well, read on to see the Week 7 college basketball top 25 rankings.

The Missouri Tigers are new to the rankings this week. Their biggest win of the season came against UCLA. Next up will be the Illinois Fighting Illini.

23. Kansas Jayhawks

kansas
John Rieger-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas got back on track by beating the New Mexico Lobos. Andrew Wiggins and co. will take on Georgetown next. A win would provide another great resume builder for this team and it would have it moving in the right direction right before conference play.

22. San Diego State Aztecs

aztecs
Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

New Mexico was the most talented team in the MWC entering the season, but San Diego State is proving otherwise. It will be interesting to see how the conference actually plays out, but the Aztecs could be the best team entering it.

21. Gonzaga Bulldogs

Gonzaga will be tested against the Kansas State Wildcats next, but it still should have no problem coming away with the victory.

20. Kentucky Wildcats

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Kentucky may be starting out the season very similar to last year, but this Wildcats team is much better. They may already have three losses, but those three came against Michigan State, Baylor and North Carolina.

19. Colorado Buffaloes

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Colorado will take on Oklahoma State next. A win against Kansas was huge, but a victory against the Cowboys would have the Buffaloes in the national spotlight.

18. Massachusetts Minutemen

minutemen
Mark L. Baer-USA TODAY Sports

Massachusetts is undefeated and it is also one of the best mid-majors in the country. In fact, Wichita State may be the only mid-major that is better than the Minutemen.

17. Florida Gators

florida
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Florida Gators have the chance to beat a second top 20 team on the season. Kansas was the victim last game and the Memphis Tigers could be next.

16. Memphis Tigers

Justin Ford-USA TODAY Sports

Both Memphis and Florida may be ranked outside of the top 15, but both have the talent to be ranked in the top five. A win would have the victor heading in that direction.

15. North Carolina Tar Heels

north carolina
Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

The North Carolina Tar Heels have only won three games in a row, but they are the hottest team in basketball regardless. They have beaten Michigan State and Kentucky in their last two out of three games. Texas is up next.

14. Baylor Bears

The Big 12 is proving to be better than expected and Baylor’s hot start has a lot to do with that.

13. Iowa State Cyclones

iowa state
Reese Strickland-USA TODAY Sports

Iowa State’s undefeated start has a lot to do with that as well. The Cyclones are very talented and they are proving early on that they can challenge Kansas and Oklahoma State for a Big 12 title.

12. Villanova Wildcats

John Geliebter-USA TODAY Sports

The Villanova Wildcats are the best team in the Big East. Did anyone expect that entering the season? I figured the Wildcats would be good enough to challenge for a conference title, but I did not know they would be this good.

11. Oregon Ducks

Spruce Derden-USA TODAY Sports

Oregon’s latest victory came against the Illinois Fighting Illini. Not the most impressive win in college hoops, but it is still a victory against a talented Big Ten team.

10. Wichita State Shockers

shockers
Peter G. Aiken-USA TODAY Sports

Wichita State has been great so far, hence the 10-0 record. The Shockers will take on Alabama next. They may be in a mid-major conference, but a win against he Crimson Tide would mean that they have now beaten two SEC teams in back-to-back games.

May I remind you that Tennessee and Alabama are two of the better teams in the conference.

9. Duke Blue Devils

duke
Mark Dolejs-USA TODAY Sports

Duke will play UCLA next. Not only is it a game between two storied programs, but it would also be a huge resume builder for the victor.

8. Oklahoma State Cowboys

Alonzo Adams-USA TODAY Sports

Oklahoma State has one tuneup game before it takes on the Colorado Buffaloes. That game should have the Cowboys more than ready for Big 12 play.

20 of 26

7. Connecticut Huskies

huskies
David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Huskies are perhaps the most surprising team of the young 2013-14 college basketball season. Connecticut will be the favorite in its next two games, but Stanford and Washington will both provide a challenge.

6. Louisville Cardinals

Jamie Rhodes-USA TODAY Sports

The defending national champs have been very quiet thus far, but Louisville’s talent cannot be denied.

22 of 26

5. Michigan State Spartans

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

Michigan State almost lost its second game in a row when it took on Oakland. However, it escaped by the score of 67-63.

23 of 26

4. Wisconsin Badgers

wisconsin
Mary Langenfeld-USA TODAY Sports

Wisconsin should enter Big Ten play undefeated. The Badgers have easily been one of the best teams so far and they have the resume to prove it.

24 of 26

3. Ohio State Buckeyes

buckeyes
Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

Ohio State is currently the highest ranked team in the Big Ten. I doubt the Buckeyes will enter conference play as the favorites though.

25 of 26

2. Syracuse Orange

syracuse
Anthony Gruppuso-USA TODAY Sports

Say what you want about the St. John’s Red Storm, but they are still a very talented team and Syracuse will definitely take the five-point victory over them.

We will get to witness quite the showdown on Dec. 28. Villanova and Syracuse will get to battle it out Big East style on that day.

1. Arizona Wildcats

arizona
Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona got another quality win. The Wildcats managed to beat the Michigan Wolverines by the score of 72-70. They have now beaten Duke, UNLV, New Mexico State and Michigan in their last four out of five games. No wonder why Arizona is No. 1.
