The San Diego State Aztecs entered the season with a lot of question marks. However, they have been great so far and are even the team to beat in the MWC.

New Mexico returned a bunch of talent and looked like it would dominate the conference this year–still could–but I doubt that will be the case. The Lobos already have three losses on the season and San Diego State has beaten some very tough teams.

The Aztecs have already beaten Creighton, Marquette and Washington. The Bluejays and Golden Eagles were ranked when San Diego State played them.

This team has only lost one game and it came against the Arizona Wildcats in the second game of the season. In case if you didn’t know, Arizona is ranked No. 1 in college hoops. San Diego State only lost that game by nine points.

Boise State is another team that had high hopes in the MWC coming in. However, the Broncos have lost back-to-back games and don’t really have a quality win yet.

San Diego State has been the best team in the conference so far. Xavier Thames has played a huge role in that, as he is averaging 17.2 points per game and is shooting an impressive 52.5 percent from behind the arc. Last season he averaged 9.5 points per game and shot 35.6 percent from long range, which is still pretty good.

The Aztecs still have to take on the Kansas Jayhawks, but they clearly have the talent to pull off the victory. They will open up conference play the game before against the Colorado State Rams.
