Marcus Smart is without a doubt one of the most talented players in college basketball and he deserves to go in the top 10 of the 2014 NBA Draft. With that in mind, Markel Brown is just as important as Smart.
Sure, Brown is not as talented, but he has been amazing for Oklahoma State this season. Brown is currently averaging 16.3 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game and 3.1 assists per game. He is also shooting 50.8 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from behind the arc. With those kinds of numbers, it is amazing that Brown doesn’t make the headlines more.
Brown has already scored 20 or more points five times on the year. He just got done dropping 23 points on the Colorado Buffaloes.
There are other players who are worth mentioning on the Cowboys, but I feel like Brown gets buried the most by Smart. He would be the star on most teams. That is all fine and dandy because Oklahoma State is still winning games and is ranked in the top 10, but people cannot forget that this team is much deeper than just Smart.
Smart may be the future lottery pick, but Brown’s impressive play is key to Oklahoma State’s success.
Teams like Kansas, Iowa State, Baylor and others are going to be very tough to beat once conference play begins. Smart is going to get a lot of attention when this team is on the offensive side of the ball, which means Brown could have some big performances. I am sure opposing teams know all about Brown, Le’Bryan Nash, Phil Forte and others, but it seems like Smart’s name is the only one in the headlines.
Well, this one is for you Markel Brown.
