The North Carolina Tar Heels entered the season with a bunch of hype. That hype has died down some, but the team still finds themselves ranked in the top 25. With that said, will North Carolina compete for an ACC title without P.J. Hairston?

That is a tricky question for the simple fact that the Tar Heels have been very inconsistent this season.

They are 3-0 against ranked opponents, but have already lost to three unranked opponents. Those three wins against ranked teams were pretty huge to say the least–Louisville, Michigan State and Kentucky.

Syracuse and Duke look better than North Carolina right now. It is that simple. However, the Tar Heels have the talent to beat any team in the nation, which has been the case so far.

Hairston would have helped this team out a lot in the three-point department. Plus, he was a very reliable scorer that any team would be lucky to have. That just means players like Leslie McDonald are going to have to be that much better. McDonald is averaging 11.7 points per game and gives the Tar Heels another threat from deep range. The other threat is Marcus Paige, who has made 30 threes on the year. This team only has 43 total.

Regardless, this team definitely has the talent to compete for a conference title, but players like James Michael McAdoo are going to have to step up in big games. The Orange and Blue Devils have the talent to win a national title. The same thing can be said about North Carolina when it is on its game, so you better believe that it will compete for an ACC title.
