The Wichita State Shockers do two things: win basketball games and climb up the rankings. Well, they just won their first MVC game of the season and will more than likely continue to climb up those rankings.

It’s not like Southern Illinois was much of a threat coming into the contest. Winning that first conference game is always important, though.

Wichita State is on its won level when it comes to the MVC. It is ranked as high as No. 7 in the polls and no other team is even close to being ranked, or that is at least how it should be.

Looking at their schedule, the Shockers really should not lose a single game. They are more talented than any other team in the conference and they have plenty of experience–made Final Four last year.

Wichita State is 14-0 on the season. Southern Illinois came in with a record of 4-9, so it is no surprise that the Shockers won by 15 points. I will give the Salukis some credit, though, since they did outscore Wichita State in the second half.

I really don’t think there is a team in the conference who can beat Wichita State. Maybe Indiana State? Maybe Missouri State? Maybe nobody? The Shockers are playing in a league of their own and that was evident in their first victory in conference play.

Hopefully Northern Iowa provides a tougher challenge on Jan. 5. More than likely, this team will continue to add wins to their perfect record and will also continue climbing up the top 25.
