The Colorado Buffaloes combined to shoot a perfect 13-13 from the line in the first half. Leading the way was point guard Spencer Dinwiddie, shooting 5-5 from the line and tallying seven points in the first.

However, he did not have the most points in the first half; that honor belonged to fellow guard Askia Booker. Booker finished the first with 11 points.

The Buffs were not the only team that was perfect in the first half at the line. The Oregon Ducks also were perfect, but were only 5-5.

Getting to the free throw line is the best part of coach Tad Boyle’s attacking offense. They forced the Ducks into 10 fouls in the first half. The poor-shooting Buffaloes struggle from three-point land, but they attack the rim better than any team in the country.

With a bad shooting team like the Buffaloes, you have to attack the rim. In the second half, it was a tale of two different offenses. The Buffs started settling for jumpers and not getting to the free throw line, which allowed the Ducks to play in transition more. You do not want the Ducks to play in transition. When push came to shove, they started attacking the rim and ended up winning 100-91.

The Buffs’ free throw shooting is one of the best in the country, but if they cannot start shooting at a higher percentage, then they have no chance to live up to the praise I gave them earlier. Tonight they shot 85 percent from the line, going 33-39 in the process. That’s an easy 33 points; Booker and Dinwiddie contributed 20-23 of those free throws. Booker finished with 27 points and Dinwiddie finished with 23 points to go along with seven assists.

Booker stepped up unlike on Thursday against the Oregon State Beavers, where he tried shooting his way out of it. Against the Ducks, he went to the line and made free throws.
