Rant Sports Week 10 Official College Basketball Top 25 Rankings
Top 25 Rankings
Notre Dame upset Duke. Kansas State beat Oklahoma State. Kansas went down for the fourth time this season. As you can see, college basketball is starting to welcome in all of the upsets. As a result, the Week 10 college basketball top 25 rankings are going to look much different than last week.
There are a few new teams in the rankings, which mean a few teams got bumped out.
Sorry for all of the Kansas fans out there, but the Jayhawks do not deserve to be ranked right now. Kansas is still a very talented team and really could earn a No. 1 seed by winning the Big 12, but it keeps on losing.
You don’t see us giving Long Beach State the benefit of the doubt and they have a very, very tough schedule every single year. With a couple of victories, Kansas will be back in the rankings. Until then, it does not deserve to be ranked in the top 25 with four losses.
Another great team that is on the verge of not being ranked anymore is Duke. The Blue Devils already have three losses and could be out of the top 25 with another loss.
This is the time of year when the rankings should be all about who a team beats, rather than a team only having one loss. However, having a great record always helps.
Conference play started with a bang and it is about to get really interesting later on tonight. Michigan State and Ohio State will go head-to-head and Baylor and Iowa State will battle it out in the Big 12. As a result, you can expect the top 10 to look a little different next week because someone has to lose those two games.
Well, get ready for yet another exciting week of college hoops by seeing the latest top 25 rankings.
25. UCLA Bruins
UCLA put a thumping on USC last game, winning by the score of 107-73. Now, it is time to see if the Bruins can keep up with the Arizona Wildcats, as they will play them next.
24. Iowa Hawkeyes
Iowa could have stolen a road victory against Wisconsin, but it didn’t. This team has played two ranked opponents (at the time) and it has lost to both of them. The Hawkeyes manage to stay in the top 25 because they played both contests very tough and they still have beaten some talented teams.
23. Kansas State Wildcats
Kansas State is on fire. It has beaten Gonzaga, George Washington and Oklahoma State. Not to mention, the Wildcats have done that in their last three out of four games. Plus, they are on a nine-game winning streak.
22. Cincinnati Bearcats
Why should the Memphis Tigers be ranked over Cincinnati when the Bearcats just got done beating them? They ended Pittsburgh’s perfect season and they are on a six-game winning streak.
21. Illinois Fighting Illini
Illinois got our attention by knocking off the Missouri Tigers. The Fighting Illini are 2-0 in Big Ten play and one of those victories came against Indiana.
20. Creighton Bluejays
Creighton is back in the top 25 and it deserves to be. The Bluejays’ only losses came against San Diego State and George Washington, who are both having great seasons.
The team has won seven games in a row ever since those back-to-back defeats.
19. Missouri Tigers
Missouri is talented enough to challenge for an SEC title and it will open up conference play against Georgia.
18. Massachusetts Minutemen
Massachusetts is one of the many Atlantic 10 teams who have emerged early on in the season. As a result, the battle for the title should be a brutal one.
17. Duke Blue Devils
Duke had a pretty good winning streak going and then it lost to Notre Dame. This is the same Fighting Irish team that just lost Jerian Grant.
The Blue Devils still have to play North Carolina and Syracuse two times each, so losing this early in ACC play could really hurt.
16. Oregon Ducks
Oregon managed to score 91 points against the Colorado Buffaloes last game. The only problem is the Ducks gave up 100. This is the only ranked team (at the time) they have played this season and they lost.
15. Colorado Buffaloes
Colorado is already 2-0 in the Pac-12 and it is a serious contender for the conference title.
14. Kentucky Wildcats
Kentucky has not played since Dec. 28, so hopefully time off will do the Wildcats some good.
13. San Diego State Aztecs
San Diego State has been one of the biggest surprises this season. The Aztecs have already beaten Creighton, Marquette (probably doesn’t even qualify as a quality win anymore), Washington and Kansas.
12. Louisville Cardinals
Louisville may have won the national championship last year, but that was last year. The Cardinals need to show their worth by knocking off Memphis on Jan. 9.
11. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Oklahoma State lost to a very good Kansas State team by three points. The Cowboys have to rebound against Texas next.
10. Villanova Wildcats
Villanova has gotten off to a great start in conference play. It may have barely escaped the Butler Bulldogs in overtime, but it did just beat Providence by 30 points.
9. Florida Gators
Is anyone else excited to see the Florida Gators at full strength? Well, Chris Walker should eventually play, which will give this team a serious boost.
8. Baylor Bears
Baylor will have the tough task of playing Iowa State on the road. This is the Bears’ first Big 12 game of the season and it couldn’t have been any more challenging.
7. Iowa State Cyclones
Iowa State plays Baylor next. The only thing at stake is the Cyclones’ perfect record. That and bragging rights in the Big 12.
6. Wichita State Shockers
The Wichita State Shockers could be the No. 1 team in the nation in no time. They have a much easier schedule than the five teams ahead of them and those five teams will be challenged here shortly.
5. Michigan State Spartans
Speaking of being challenged, Michigan State will go up against Ohio State tonight. Luckily for the Spartans, that contest will be played at home for them.
4. Wisconsin Badgers
Wisconsin just got done beating a ranked Iowa team, but it will not get a break. This is the Big Ten after all. The Badgers will take on Illinois next.
3. Ohio State Buckeyes
As I said earlier, Ohio State and Michigan State play each other tonight. Both teams are ranked in the top five and both teams should have aspirations of winning a Big Ten tile and national championship this season.
Regardless of those two things, this should be one heck of a showdown.
2. Syracuse Orange
Syracuse is still perfect, but it will be challenged many times in the ACC this season. Teams like North Carolina and Duke are not going to fall over and will compete for a conference title.
1. Arizona Wildcats
Arizona will have a tough test when it takes on UCLA next. That game will be played on the road for the Wildcats and we could see them losing their first game of the season.
