Texas vs. Baylor: Both Teams Could Use Victory, But Bears Are Desperate

Baylor got off to an amazing start in the 2013-14 college basketball season and then Big 12 play began. Texas has been solid for most of the year, but has not gotten as much buzz as the Bears. Both teams will meet up this weekend and both could use the victory. However, Baylor is desperate.

It has now lost three games in a row and is on the verge of getting booted out of the top 25. Losses to Kansas and Oklahoma are understandable, but losing to Texas Tech still has me scratching my head.

Baylor is now 1-4 in conference play and it may have no shot at winning the Big 12 title. Kansas is still undefeated at 5-0.

Texas is 4-2 in the conference. It is only two games back in the standings and it has already beaten Iowa State and Kansas State. In fact, the Longhorns have beaten those two in back-to-back games.

These two teams have the talent to challenge for a conference title. I still think Oklahoma State will pull off that feat, but I am sure the rest of the world–a lot of it at least–thinks the Jayhawks will take home the crown once again.

Regardless, Texas is riding a four-game winning streak and would be looked at as a serious threat to win the conference if it can beat Baylor.

The Bears are on a three-game losing streak and are not a guarantee to make the tournament anymore. That is very disappointing after having such an amazing start to the season.

As a result, both teams could use the victory, but Baylor is clearly desperate. Dropping to 1-5 in conference play would be horrible and would have many people wondering if the Bears have what it takes to even compete in the Big Dance, let alone make it.
