The North Carolina Tar Heels are easily the most inconsistent team in Division-I basketball, but the erratic team has unlimited potential. North Carolina moved to just 12-7 on the season with the win over the Clemson Tigers, and are now 2-4 in conference play.

North Carolina features some of the best individual players in the country, but a lack of unity is what plagues the Tar Heels. They remain a tournament team because of name recognition alone, but if the team finds cohesiveness throughout the season, the will be destined for greater things than just a tournament bid.

The Tar Heels’ 80-61 victory over the Tigers showed the nation what the team is capable of, but they should take the blowout victory with a grain of salt because the country has seen the poor performances that the team has turned in this season. James Michael McAdoo was the breakout performer in the win with 22 points and seven rebounds, but North Carolina needs more consistency from the big man.

The Tar Heels’ ceiling could result in a deep run in the NCAA tournament, but the team’s floor is an early-round exit in the tournament or possibly even a lack of a tournament bid. North Carolina is known around the country for the team’s basketball prowess, but this team’s play is far from legendary. Can they make a run in the tournament, or will they fall short on selection Sunday?
