2014 NCAA Tournament: Predicting the No. 1 Seeds
Predicting the No. 1 seeds for the NCAA tournament before the month of February can turn out just as bad as, well, predicting the No. 1 seeds for the NCAA tournament before the month of February. But here we are doing just that.
Wichita State: The Shockers cannot lose a single game now until the start of the NCAA tournament if they plan on earning a top seed. In no way is that fair, but that is how mid-majors are treated in this world. Even the ones who just so happened to make a run to the Final Four last season. I am sure this team will be just fine with a No. 2 seed or at least it should be.
Syracuse: The Orange clearly have the best resume in the ACC right now, but I have to go with my preseason pick for the conference title. Duke has been on a roll–on a five-game win streak–and it has beaten Michigan and UCLA outside of the conference. The winner of the ACC will earn a No. 1 seed this year, though. As you can see, I am predicting that to be the Blue Devils.
A Big Ten Team: Have you seen how Big Ten teams treat each other? This conference is brutal and I am sure the madness will continue. With that in mind, the winner could easily earn a No. 1 seed.
Arizona has been the best team in the country all season long and it may not even lose in the Pac-12. Heck, the Wildcats may not even lose this season.
Kansas and Florida have been red hot as of late and both teams are getting better and better. The Gators have won 12 games in a row, which includes victories over Kansas, Memphis, Arkansas (on the road) and Tennessee. The Jayhawks have beaten five ranked teams (at the time) in their last seven.
I think the biggest problem people will have here is Duke earning a No. 1 seed. For one, Syracuse has been the better team so far. Two, Wichita State may only lose one to two games before the tournament–just a prediction–and it showed its worth by making the Final Four last season. Three, the winner of the Big Ten Conference could be considered the best team in college hoops.
There are so many different teams that could earn a No. 1 seed this year and I am sure this prediction will change many times before the month of March. Other teams that could earn a top seed are Cincinnati, Creighton, a couple of Big Ten teams, San Diego State, Oklahoma State (among other Big 12 teams), Villanova and I am just going to stop right there before I list the entire top 25.
Because there could be so many different No. 1 seeds there may not be a clear cut favorite for the national title, which means we are in store for a crazy NCAA tournament–as usual.
Pittsburgh Basketball Not Capable of Running Table
The 4-0 Pittsburgh Panthers have started their season with one of the easiest schedules in college basketball. It would be ridiculous to say they can run the table, though. Read More
