Coming into the season, teams like Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Kentucky, Arizona, Duke and others were a lot of people’s favorites to earn a No. 1 seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Well, a lot has changed since then, but we will be looking at the 10 teams with the best chance to earn a No. 1 seed in the upcoming dance.

You can expect some preseason favorites to be on this list, along with a couple surprises. However, every single team could still earn a No. 1 seed. Only four of the 10 can actually do that, though.

The calendar just turned over to February and I am sure many people are hoping for a fast month. Still, college basketball is exciting to watch no matter what and it will be interesting to see which teams actually end up in the field of 68.

Who is going to win the Big 10? Is Kansas still the favorite in the Big 12 after its blowout loss to Texas? Will Kentucky come back to win the SEC? There are many questions that still need to be answered and we will have a much better idea on some of them with the conclusion of this month.

It would be a shocker if a team outside of these 10 earned a No. 1 seed, but a lot can happen now until the tournament field is actually announced.

Who knows, Oklahoma State, Creighton, Villanova and others could play their way into the mix.

Well, read on to see the 10 teams with the best chance to earn a No. 1 seed in the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Not only do these teams have the best chance to earn a top seed, but they are arguably some of the best in college basketball.

Michigan Wolverines

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Record: 16-4, 8-0 Big Ten

Michigan lost four games in its non-conference schedule and preseason All-American Mitch McGary was out. Things did not look good for the Wolverines entering Big Ten play, but they have been the best team in the conference so far. Three wins against top 10 teams in a row proves that (at No. 3 Wisconsin, No. 10 Iowa, at No. 3 Michigan State)

Florida Gators

Record: 19-2, 8-0 SEC

Florida has now won 13 games in a row. The Gators beat Kansas and Memphis in the process. They may not lose in conference play, which would definitely lead to a No. 1 seed.

Two wins against Kentucky would help as well, but who knows if that will be the case. Regardless, Florida is the best team in the conference and it has no bad losses.

Arizona Wildcats

Record: 21-0, 8-0 Pac-12

As you can see, no one has been able to beat Arizona. It is currently the No. 1 team in the nation and may not lose a game during the regular season.

The Wildcats have beaten a number of quality teams, which includes wins over Duke, Michigan and San Diego State.

Michigan State Spartans

Record: 19-3, 8-1 Big Ten

Michigan State may have lost two out of its last three games, but it still has a good shot at a No. 1 seed--if it can win the Big Ten. However, it is in a very tough conference that features teams like Michigan, Ohio State, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Still, the Spartans have beaten Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas, Iowa and Ohio State (among others).

Kansas Jayhawks

Record: 16-5, 7-1 Big 12.

Yes, Texas just got done beating Kansas by a good amount. Yes, Kansas has five losses already.

In the Jayhawks’ defense, they have beaten six ranked opponents and are 7-1 in their last eight. Out of those six wins over top 25 teams, three of them were against top 10 teams (at the time).

A Big 12 title will more than likely lead to a No. 1 seed. That can be said about many of the power conferences, but Kansas has beaten some very good teams this year and it has a bunch of talent.

Wichita State Shockers

Record: 23-0, 10-0 MVC

Wichita State may have the best chance to earn a No. 1 seed for the simple fact that it plays in the MVC and plays no ranked teams the rest of the season. In fact, the Shockers have not beaten any ranked teams on the year (at the time).

Cincinnati Bearcats

Record: 20-2, 9-0 AAC

Cincinnati may be the least likely team to earn a No. 1 seed. That is because the Bearcats are not getting as much buzz as many of the other top teams in college hoops. Their record is great and their resume shows how good they have been on the season.

Cincinnati has beaten Pittsburgh, Memphis and Louisville (among others).

Syracuse Orange

Record: 20-0, 7-0 ACC

Syracuse’s best victories have come against Baylor, Villanova and Pittsburgh, but it has beaten other good teams that could end up in the Big Dance.

The Orange are currently playing against Duke. The winner will have huge bragging rights. The winner of the conference should earn a No. 1 seed in the dance.

San Diego State Aztecs

Record: 18-1, 7-0 MWC

The only loss of the season for San Diego State came against Arizona. That loss occurred back in November.

The Aztecs beat Marquette, Creighton and Kansas in their non-conference schedule, who were all ranked at the time.

San Diego State may need to win the MWC regular season title and tournament if it wants to earn a No. 1 seed, though, which is definitely possible.

11 of 11

Duke Blue Devils

Record: 17-4, 6-2 ACC

Duke is another team that may need to win its regular season conference title and tournament. That is because Syracuse has been so good and could earn a top seed even if it does not win the ACC.

The Blue Devils have beaten teams like Michigan, UCLA, Pittsburgh and Virginia (among others). They have a lot of work to do if they plan on earning a No. 1 seed and they have to prove that they are better than Syracuse.

Still, they are on a five-game winning streak and are clearly one of the best teams in one of the best conferences.
